Padmanabhaswamy Temple

Experience the blend of Kerala and Dravidian architectural styles and get lost in antiquity! Fully soaked in the spiritual power of Lord MahaVishnu, the Ananthapadmanabhaswamy temple at Thiruvananthapuram is a confluence of Kerala and Dravidian style of architecture. The temple is surrounded by high walls and also has a Gopuram. The Sreekovil (sanctum sanctorum) has the deity of Lord Vishnu as reclining on the hooded serpent Anantha and hence the name. The Sreekovil is surrounded by a lake and connected to the Gopuram through a small bridge. The outer walls of the Sreekovil have a number of ancient Puranic themed mural paintings and an outer wall protects these. The deity can be viewed through three doors. The OttakkalMandapam carved out of a single stone is also to be seen. One interesting tradition is that only the ruler is allowed to prostrate to the deity in the Mandapam. The Bali PeedaMandapam, NavagrahaMandapa, NatakaSala and the broad corridor with 365 pillars are not to be missed. The worship time is specified and there is a dress code that is to be followed. The Anathapadmanabhaswamy temple is located in the heart of the town of Thiruvananthapuram and is only 6 kilometres away from the International Airport. Other important places that you can visit are the Padmanabhapuram Palace, Agastya Mala, Kovalam Beach, Poovar Island, among others. Check our Kerala vacation packages for best offers.
