Bekal Fort

Catch the beauty of the Blue Ocean and waves hitting the Bekal Fort! Located in Kerala’s northernmost district of Kasaragod, the Bekal Fort borders the sea coast of Bekal village. It is the largest and the most wellmaintained fort in Kerala. The exotic location is spread over 40 acres of land and is just 60 kilometres away from Mangalore city in the neighbouring state of Karnataka. Thousands of tourists visit Bekal Fort every year to soak in the majestic and panoramic view from the newly constructed walkway, multi sheds, and eru-madoms (tree houses). People throng the beach even after sunset as lights have been provided. The key feature of the fort is the water tank and the steps leading to it. There is a tunnel that opens to the south and a magazine to keep ammunition. Broad steps lead to the Observation Tower. The best time to visit the place on your tour to kerala is from mid-November to end February. Nearest railway station: Kasaragod, on the Kozhikode-Mangalore-Mumbai route. The nearest airport is the Mangalore airport which is about 50 kilometres from Kasaragod town.
